About the Author

I am a 38 year old trans guy leveraging my pragmatic mid-west upbringing to propagate a pretty sweet life with my wife and two children about 30 miles north of Seattle. I am a human services (never to be confused with human resources) data analyst by day and a nerd 24/7. I enjoy opportunities to be creative including painting, writing music, playing guitar and creating data visualizations.

Privilege Inventory

I live a life of extreme privilege. I am a white, middle class, homeowner in a two income household. I have a supportive family, secure employment, and live in a progressive area with access to specialized trans healthcare. I also have good insurance to cover said care. Yet transitioning has been extremely difficult.

There are struggles beyond rejection and access and resources that I wasn’t anticipating. I want to use the emotional capital I haven’t had to spend because my privilege protected me to raise awareness for trans issues. I have the time and sometimes the energy to spare because I am not struggling to merely exist and I feel so fortunate for that. I hope that sharing my story might make the path a little less difficult or a little less lonely or a little less mysterious for someone else.
